We are pleased to announce the launch of SKYSCAPE – Avian movement landscapes in a fragmented sky.
SKYSCAPE is a 24-month research project that explores how birds use aerial habitats in landscapes increasingly shaped by wind-energy infrastructure, urbanization, and other human pressures. The project combines fieldwork, movement and connectivity modelling, collision-risk analysis, and metabolomic profiling to improve our understanding of human-wildlife interactions in the airspace. Specifically, the research focuses on three main objectives: a) identifying the factors associated with bird collisions at wind turbines, b) mapping critical aerial connectivity corridors for migratory birds, c) examining physiological responses of urban and rural birds through metabolomic analysis.
Through this website, we will share project news, fieldwork updates, research activities, publications, conference contributions, and other public outputs as the project develops.
SKYSCAPE is funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) under the 4th Call for H.F.R.I. Research Projects to support Postdoctoral Researchers and is hosted by the University of Ioannina, Department of Biological Applications and Technology.
